Luckily, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is usually as forthcoming about details of the future projects as he can be, without giving stuff away. Recently, Feige spoke with Birth.Movies.Death. for the Ant-Man and the Wasp press tour, and of course, he was asked about the grand finale of Avengers 4. Specifically, what the current status is of the film.
Feige said the following:
“We’re just starting the edit. The brothers have worked on their cut, and we’ve been together in the editing room for a couple weeks now, so it’s very early days. But it’s much earlier than usual, right? Usually, we’re still filming. Captain Marvel comes out in March, while this one comes out in May and we’re already starting. It’s fun to get a jump, it’s good having already shot the majority of the movie. So we’re just getting into our traditional editorial process now.”
It may seem like a long way off for us fans, but somehow knowing that the editing process has begun makes it seem like we are in the home stretch. The team working on Avengers 4 will have the rest of the summer devoted to continuing their “jump start” on post-production, considering the decision to skip a presentation at San Diego Comic-Con this year.
Ideally, fans would see some footage or a first teaser trailer at a Comic-Con panel, but the fact that Feige explained that the editing process has just begun lets us know that the reason for skipping Hall H is simply because there is nothing ready to show yet! While Marvel Studios at Hall H will be sorely missed, the greatest priority is getting the film done!
Captain Marvel is on the brink of completion for its production, as well. Just this week, Brie Larson announced that she had wrapped filming, so all MCU fans will essentially be waiting with bated breath of a teaser trailer from either of thee two films over the course of the year.
Bottom line is, Avengers 4 is in post-production! Progress is indeed being made and that is never a bad thing. Each day moves closer to the Avengers 4 release date of May 3, 2019!
