Entertainment Weekly just released new sneak peeks at Spider-Man: No Way Home, along with an interview with star Tom Holland!
Perhaps the biggest bombshell of the conversation was how Holland referred to No Way Home as the final chapter of his standalone trilogy. He said:
“We were all treating [No Way Home] as the end of a franchise, let’s say. I think if we were lucky enough to dive into these characters again, you’d be seeing a very different version… We would give it some time and try to build something different and tonally change the films. Whether that happens or not, I don’t know. But we were definitely treating [No Way Home] like it was coming to an end, and it felt like it.”
Of course, he left the door slightly open there. That said, unless something big happens, it seems like this will be the final solo outing for Holland.
And he’s certainly come a long way in such little time! It’s hard to believe that Holland first donned Spidey’s suit in 2016 in Captain America: Civil War. The actor discussed how this third solo movie feels different compared to Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017. “The first film, [director] Jon Watts and I were sort of flying by the seat of our pants. This one, I think we both felt really confident, so we were able to relax,” Holland said. “We actually had so much more fun on this one than we did on the previous two.”
We can’t wait to see the fruits of their labor in about two months! As the first trailer for the movie showed us, Doctor Strange will take charge as Spider-Man’s mentor, we’ll get a taste of the multiverse, and Doc Ock is back, but we expect a ton more revelations, twists, and turns when the film finally hits theaters this December.
