The first teaser and poster for Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings debuted today! The more videos and images we get from MCU movies, the more it seems that Marvel’s Phase 4 theatrical slate will stay put the rest of this year. And that’s certainly something to get excited about.
The hotly anticipated Shang-Chi stands as the MCU’s first Asian-led superhero flick. It also boasts a mostly Asian cast, which is great to see as Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige has talked extensively about bringing more diversity to the Marvel universe.
Take a peek at the first teaser here:
Simu Liu plays the title character in the MCU. As it so happens, Liu celebrates his birthday today; what could be better than getting these presents on your special day?
Check out the teaser poster Liu shared on Twitter to commemorate the occasion:
Notice that he wrote “trailer drops in a few weeks.” We’ll certainly keep our eyes out for that official release, hopefully sooner rather than later.
As per usual, we know little about the plot of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. “Shang-Chi must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization,” was one nugget Marvel provided. That said, a few other details have been made public since the film’s announcement at SDCC 2019. For one, it’s been confirmed that Tony Leung will play legendary Marvel villain the Mandarin. Other cast members include Awkwafina, Ronny Chieng, Fala Chen, Florian Munteanu, Meng’er Zhang, and Michelle Yeoh.
Shang-Chi will be the second MCU film coming out this year, following July’s Black Widow. However, it won’t hit Disney+ the same time it bows in theaters, like Black Widow will. Clearly, Marvel is banking on things being back to normal enough to offer just one way to see the movie – on the big screen. We think the teaser delivered, providing enough action and curiosity in anticipation of the movie’s September 3 debut!
