Why Mark Ruffalo Actually Went On The Tonight Show With Avengers 4 ‘Spoilers’

By now, fans all over the world are fully aware that both Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo hold the reputation that if they’re provided with any important information about movies they’re involved in, they’ll let it slip to the public. Now, while that may be overblown quite a bit, they have certainly spoiled a couple of things. Marvel Studios and Disney, being the marketing gurus that they are, have begun using their reputations as a means to drop clues and reveals that immediately spread across the Internet like wildfire. In the age of social media, it’s a really cheap way and effective way to release information to the public. This being known, it wasn’t out of the realm of possibility that Ruffalo was being serious when he tweeted this…

The tweet came a day after Jeremy Condrad of MCU Cosmic reported that the name of Avengers 4 would be Avengers: Annihilation, claiming the report came from a “source who is most reliable.” If the report was true, it would make sense for Marvel Studios to get the information out there from one of their own folks before that news spread outside of the Internet circles. Luckily for Ruffalo, Jimmy Fallon and crew obliged him with censoring, but the entire act was obviously a troll. Nonetheless, it was very funny. Check out the clip below…

We’re still all waiting for Marvel Studios to either confirm what we already know or to give us the actual name of the film, but Ruffalo’s visit to Fallon wasn’t for that at all. Instead, it was to spread the word about the upcoming mid-term elections and push people to get out to the polls and vote.

Masterfully done and using his own reputation as a means to get more eyes to his cause, Mark and Jimmy used our excitement and social media perfectly. Ruffalo joined young student/activists Jaclyn Corin and Delaney Starr on the show to urge young men and women to register to vote.

Regardless of what side of the political spectrum you may fall, we can all admit that the ruse was well played. It also doesn’t take away from the fact that the Russo Brothers hilariously helped with the troll by “firing” Ruffalo for his spoilers. Avengers 4 hits theaters on May 3rd, 2019.
