Walt Disney World Is Bringing 10 Foot Tall Mech Suits To Pandora In Animal Kingdom

The future of Disney Parks is always changing. Not a year goes by that the Imagineers don’t work to make a new attraction for their millions of visitors. Just this year alone, it was announced that Marvel experiences were coming to multiple parks around the world, including a major overhaul of Disney’s California Adventure to add a full Marvel-themed land, among other things.

The latest news may not be a whole new land, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t still cool. The fans of Walt Disney World out there will be getting a new park experience to liven up their visit to Pandora.

In a collaboration between Lightstorm Entertainment, Disney Parks Live Entertainment, Michael Curry Studios, and Walt Disney Imagineering, new mechanical suits will be coming to Pandora: The World of Avatar in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

The newest land at Animal Kingdom, Pandora: The World of Avatar, debuted last summer to rave reviews. In fact, one of the two attractions which also debuted with the land, Flight of Passage, has quickly become the most popular ride in the park.

The details of the world created by James Cameron are unprecedented, and the newest addition to the land will only highlight those details even more. Disney released a behind-the-scenes look at the new suits that are being built and will be brought into the park, this year.  Although the suits look a bit surreal, the video shows that after a lot of hard work and testing, the suits are fully functional.

Although similar mech suits are in fact featured in the Avatar movie, Laura Offerdahl, executive producer of Disney Parks Live Entertainment said, “These are not the AMP (Amplified Mobility Platform) suits you see in the movie. But these are actually suits that have been developed by the scientists to go out in to the wilderness to explore the plant life and the animals.”
