Slowly but surely, information is creeping out regarding Sony’s upcoming Spider-Man spin-off, Venom. We know the film will star Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, we know Venom will be a full CGI rendition of the character, and now we know what the storyline is based on!
Sony Pictures took the stage at Comic-Con Experience 2017 in Sao Paulo, Brazil to debut the trailer for the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse movie due out around Christmas 2018 (you can watch that HERE), and they also gave us some info on the upcoming Venom movie. Collider reported that director Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) appeared live via satellite to explain to fans what they could expect.
Fleischer revealed the movie is going to be primarily based on two comicbook runs: Venom: Lethal Protector and “Planet of the Symbiotes.”
Lethal Protector is a six-issue series by David Michelinie and Mark Bagley, in which Venom and Spider-Man agree to leave each other alone as long as Venom stays on the side of good and gives up crime. Venom leaves New York and heads for San Francisco, where this movie will take place.
