Tom Hardy’s Venom And Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Collide In This McFarlane-Inspired Fan Rendering

The next time we see Spider-Man will hopefully be in Avengers 4 when his heart-wrenching death is reversed and we can all rejoice! That’s happening next year. However, the next look we will get into the Spider-verse, so to speak, comes from Sony Studios this fall.

Tom Hardy will be starring as Eddie Brock, who gets taken over by the alien symbiote that we know and love, Venom. With the standalone Venom film coming out this October, we will see a different side of the character than we’ve already seen on the big screen. We’ve seen trailers for the film, complete with a giant, ferocious rendering of the black monster that takes over Brock’s body. The monster is also depicted in the first poster for the film that shows how Brock is being devoured by the alien entity that is Venom.

One thing specifically omitted from any of the materials, however, is the web-slinger himself. The appearance of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man would depend on some inter-studio cooperation between Marvel/Disney and Sony and some explanation for Peter Parker’s existence in regards to Thanos’ finger snap of doom. Despite all of this though, the director of Venom, Ruben Fleischer, did not deny a cameo appearance from Parker, as he said the following:

“This feels very much like Venom’s movie. It’s the introduction of the character. As to where it will go in future movies, and who he’ll run across, I can’t say.”

These vague words have been enough to spawn fan excitement for a reunion between the two characters since 2007’s Spider-Man 3.

Comicbook fans may think back to the original comic run of the two characters against each other, illustrated by the famed artist Todd McFarlane, whose work featured the first full appearance of Venom back in 1988. McFarlane’s illustrations set the bar for all future iterations of Venom to come, and trust us, there have been many. So with the exciting news of Venom’s first titular film, one talented fan paid homage to the characters and artist by recreating one of McFarlane’s drawings of Venom vs. Spider-Man but with updated details to depict Tom Hardy’s Venom and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.

As you can see, the picture has Spidey in the suit Tony Stark bequeathed to him in Captain America: Civil War, while Venom has the elongated teeth and wet-looking skin that we saw in the Venom trailer.

The original art that this was modeled after is shown below, with only a few subtle differences…

Whether the two characters will actually go head-to-head once more remains to be seen, but it just goes to show how far the characters have come throughout their long and illustrious histories. If the two Spider-verses remain separate on-screen, well, we will always have the comics (and Spider-Man 3 on DVD)!

Venom (which may or may not include a Spider-Man cameo) comes to theaters on October 5, 2018. SHARE this on Facebook!
