‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Explains Infinity Gauntlet Easter Egg From 2011’s ‘Thor’

In the early days of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, when filmgoers remained skeptical of an Infinity War on the horizon, comicbook fans were treated to a puzzling easter egg in the first film of the Thor franchise. During a single shot in the movie, one can see a fully slotted right-handed Infinity Gauntlet in Odin’s possession, displayed in his Asgardian vault. During the frost giant siege and the vaporization of The Destroyer, a quick cut reveals the powerful item, prompting a laundry list of fan questions.

Thanos’s left-handed gauntlet, containing all 6 of the Infinity Stones, will be featured in Avengers: Infinity War in 2018. This will be tricky since Marvel Studios is still trying to include the final Soul Stone in a future cinematic release. Fans theorize several possible placements of the stone. Some speculate that it is in the possession of the collector or maybe Heimdall. Others think that the introduction of the Soul Stone would interweave with the Adam Warlock plotline somehow, although the MCU seems to be deviating from his comicbook origins as a creation of the Enclave. It remains to be seen if the upcoming Black Panther movie will reveal the Soul Stone to be the source of the Vibranium meteorite that found its way into Wakanda. Any of these theories could prove true. While fans continue to speculate, Ragnarok decided to dispel rumors of the righty glove in Thor (2011) with the sleight of hand.
