Sometimes characters in films get played so well by an actor that it’s difficult to see them in other roles. They’re married to a character for so long that they’re almost pigeon-holed into that role only. Take Daniel Radcliffe for example, when you see him do you think of anyone but Harry Potter?
In other instances, an actor can play multiple big name characters and get away with it. Chris Evans went from playing Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four and Rise Of The Silver Surfer but was able to pull off Captain America in the MCU without a problem. Josh Brolin is not only Thanos, he’s also playing Cable in the upcoming Deadpool sequel. The list goes on and on, but there isn’t a recipe for it, necessarily.
Going from one iconic character to another is something Chris Hemsworth would be open to doing. Thor himself was asked about playing the role of James Bond and was open to doing it. He did, however, have some reservations. During an interview with Australian morning show Sunrise, Chris had this to say…
“Yeah, I think any actor would jump at that opportunity. I’m certainly a fan. A whole lot of pressure comes with that, though. I think the Bond fan base is probably more critical than the comic book fanbase. But I don’t know, there’s plenty of guys that would do a better job than I would. Plenty of English men or women that could probably take over that one. …I feel like it’s a sort of English world.”
Hemsworth wouldn’t be the first Australian to play Bond. George Lazenby took on the role in 1969’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, but wouldn’t play him again. With Daniel Craig playing 007 one last time in the upcoming Bond 25, the franchise’s next star is still to come. Maybe it will be our favorite Asgardian… Only time will tell!
