Marvel Studios has indeed come a long way since their first effort with 2008’s Iron Man, and Robert Downey Jr.’s ever-growing poise and maturity as Tony Stark has helped to usher in the unique flavor of the now sprawling Marvel Cinematic Universe (Earth-199999.) In the near decade since his debut, Marvel fans have shown an unflagging appreciation towards the actor and his spot-on portrayal, and have been rewarded not only with his career making lead turns in the Iron Man films, but fantastic supporting appearances in other branches of the franchise such as the Captain America trilogy (in its third entry, Civil War) and the recently added Spider-Man series (2017’s Homecoming.)
Upcoming films in the MCU will be leading into one of the biggest and most highly anticipated superhero cinematic crossovers, Avengers: Infinity War, which will find Iron Man and his team up against a vicious celestial threat in the Mad Titan Thanos, and his Black Order.
As per Marvel Studios president, Kevin Feige, some time after the battle Downey’s role as Tony Stark/Iron Man will be taking a turn – most likely in the form of retirement. However, neither he nor the fans will have to worry about that until after the anticipated Spider-Man sequel swings into theaters in the summer of 2019.
