The Uncanny X-Men Look To Be Meeting Their End In New Miniseries

The X-Men are certainly amongst some of the most recognizable faces in the Marvel comicbook universe no matter how the group has changed and developed over the years. The Uncanny X-Men, spearheaded by Chris Claremont, helped the team of mutants gain in popularity during his stretch between 1975 and 1991, easily the longest time dedicated by a single writer to the characters.

Amazingly enough, it was announced at SDCC earlier this summer that the Uncanny X-Men would be returning this fall after other related series like X-Men Blue & Gold end in September. To fill in October will be a miniseries centered on X-Men villains, and the first comicbook will feature Claremont on the creative front!

According to info from Den of Geek, “The return of Uncanny X-Men was discussed at the same panel (at SDCC) as another big announcement: X-Men Black, a series of villain-focused one-shots released weekly in October, with legendary X-Men writer Chris Claremont coming out of the gates first. The comicbooks include:

  • Magneto, by Claremont and Dalabor Talajic
  • Mojo, by Scott Aukerman and Nick Bradshaw
  • Mystique, by Seanan Mcguire and Marco Failla
  • Juggernaut, by Robbie Thompson and Shawn Crystal
  • Emma Frost, by Leah Williams and Chris Bachalo.”

What’s awesome is that X-Men Black will be taking place just one month before the Uncanny X-Men make their return in November, as it was announced at SDCC. Now we know a little more about the mysterious return of the Uncanny X-Men, and it’s being said that the team will be “disassembled”.

Official PR for the comicbook series explains:

“Last month at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Comics announced that UNCANNY X-MEN would return this fall. Today, the creative team was officially announced as well as an official release date for UNCANNY X-MEN #1 — Wednesday, November 14. The new ongoing series is jam-packed with X-talent — all the writers and artists have previously worked on X-Men characters and stories and will be teaming up for more mutant mayhem!

UNCANNY X-MEN will launch with a 10-part weekly epic called “Disassembled.” Where the series goes from there depends on who is left standing! In this “epic tale of mystery and tragic disappearance,” every remaining mutant on the planet will come together in “an adventure so Earth-shattering, it could very well be the X-Men’s FINAL mission!” With stakes this high, it will take an extraordinary team to tell this story.

Writers Ed Brisson (EXTERMINATION), Kelly Thompson (MR. AND MRS. X), and Matthew Rosenberg (PHOENIX RESURRECTION, ASTONISHING X-MEN) will join the equally X-perienced artistic team of Mahmud Asrar (X-MEN RED), R.B. Silva (X-MEN BLUE), Yildiray Cinar (WEAPON X), and Pere Perez (ROGUE AND GAMBIT). Leinil Frances Yu will provide artwork for the covers.”
