In the promotional material before the release of Avengers: Infinity War, it was very apparent to all interested or invested in the film that there were two major players missing from the roster. Both Ant-Man and Hawkeye were missing in action for one reason or another, with the first of which set to star in another movie with his partner, The Wasp, shortly after this latest installment of the MCU.
When Infinity War debuted last month, all of the speculation as to when they would appear in the film went completely out the window, because the two characters were nowhere in sight. However, Hawkeye was briefly mentioned in a conversation about how he was currently with his family, and now we may have a better idea of what that means.
Remember at the end of Avengers: Civil War when Cap broke a bunch of heroes out of containment? Well, Ant-Man and Hawkeye were among them, and it kind of put them into a funny predicament, as they are both family men at the end of the day, beyond all of the hero business. Once free, they were possibly able to bargain for house-arrest so that they could be with their family, which would make sense and account for why they weren’t in Wakanda for the big battle when the time came.
Not that their hearts weren’t with their friends, but likely they had no other choice in the matter except to leave their families behind and risk going back to prison.
