The Russo Brothers Discuss Tony Stark’s Connection To Thanos In ‘Infinity War’

The press tour for Avengers: Infinity War is in full swing for both the actors that portray our favorite superheroes on screen and the directors of the film. During this tour, they’re all going to get asked a lot of questions, and while many of them may be monotonous and cliche, sometimes a reporter will be able to sneak something in that gets a great quote. The Telegraph India was able to do that during an interview with the Russo Brothers recently.

During the interview, The Telegraph India touched on many things, but it’s when they started getting into Thanos and his motivations where things really started to open up in terms of Infinity War. In the midst of the discussion of it being Thanos’ movie, the Russos were asked, “Would his enemy be Tony Stark?”

As we know from watching the prior films, Tony has seen this threat coming. Maybe not in the form of Thanos, but it’s why he created Ultron, even if that didn’t pan out the way he envisioned. During Avengers: Age of Ultron, the vision Scarlet Witch gave him showed him an apocalyptic event that killed all of his friends. If any one of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes is most prepared to battle against the Mad Titan, it’s definitely Iron Man.

When they were asked, “Would his enemy be Tony Stark?” This is how Joe Russo answered…

“It’s all the heroes. I think he has the most specific connection to Tony because Tony is a futurist, and he has predicted a threat like Thanos. It’s lived in his brain even though he couldn’t name it. Tony is the most desperately driven, down to the core, to react against something like Thanos, although all the heroes will face a threat, no matter who it is or where it comes from. But I think this is intrinsic to Tony’s psychology, and because Tony started it all with Iron Man, he has a special connection to the threat that’s facing him.”

With the way things left off at the end of Captain America: Civil War, it’s going to be interesting to see how this gang of superheroes finds a way to reconnect and fight for the side of good, especially with so many new characters coming into the fold. Fortunately for all of us, we have less than three weeks until Infinity War hits theaters on April 27th!
