As the mutant-based TV series The Gifted enters its second season, it looks like viewers will end up getting a clearer glimpse of the past, as the show also moves forward.
Throughout season one, we have seen a society in which mutants are hunted, oppressed, and imprisoned by Trask Industries and their weaponized Sentinel Services (a la X-Men: Days of Future Past) with no powerful mutant groups like the X-Men or the Brotherhood of Mutants to help mutant-kind.
So far, we had not learned exactly why the mutant race became so unfavorable to society. All that we had known was that it all dated back to an event called the “7/15 Incident.” The incident was a mutant rights demonstration that went horribly wrong and resulted in the deaths of mutants and humans alike. Any specific details as to what happened have been yet to be revealed, but that will change in Season 2.
In an interview with TVline, showrunner Matt Nix confirmed that season two would indeed shed light on the elusive, fateful event that started everything.
