M. Night Shyamalan took the world by storm when his film The Sixth Sense was released. The dynamic of Bruce Willis and Haley Joel Osment was incredible on screen, but the true star of the film was its writer and director. Shyamalan’s twist ending not only shocked the people who watched the film, it would become somewhat of a calling card for him.
Shyamalan would follow The Sixth Sense with another Bruce Willis led film, this time pairing the legend with Samuel L. Jackson in 2000’s Unbreakable. The movie was both critically acclaimed and loved by fans, and it seemed like M. Night Shyamalan could do no wrong behind the camera. Well, stories often change.
Over the next 15 years, Shyamalan would have a couple of hits and misses, some would say more of the latter, but that was until 2016’s film Split. Split would be his “return to greatness.” The James McAvoy led film about a man with multiple personalities who kidnaps three women brought back the world of Unbreakable, and with that, set up a trilogy that we’re all excited to see come to its conclusion.
