Sebastian Stan’s character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Bucky Barnes, has developed quite a lot of the course of a few movies. We’ve seen him become both a nemesis and an ally to Earth’s mightiest heroes, and for the moment it looks like he is going to play a large role in the fight to come with Thanos and the Black Order in Avengers: Infinity War.
What’s interesting now about Barnes as a character was revealed in the post-credit scene after Black Panther ended. He is seen clearly in Wakanda and is referred to as the “White Wolf,” who, if you recognize the name from the comicbooks, is a pretty interesting person in the life of T’Challa growing up as a child and in his life as a king after his father dies. Of course, there are some huge differences in the way that the MCU is driving a lot of the story, but there is something definitely there, and many didn’t see this twist coming.
Sebastian Stan, the actor that plays Bucky Barnes, didn’t expect things to play out like this he explained in an interview with Kinowetter. He said, “Now, talking about comic books and merging them with the MCU, I want to go back and revisit the Black Panther comics because of the White Wolf situation and that’s a whole different line, so I didn’t even see that really going that way and understanding what that could be. But it’s really clever the way they do it, if you think about it. I look at that and go, ‘Of course. That makes sense, that feels well.’ I don’t know how they think about it.”
If Barnes does become the White Wolf, there is a lot of room for writers to take Bucky and drive him in a completely different direction than ever anticipated based upon his role as the Winter Soldier in the past.
