Ryan Reynolds Discusses Why He Never Actually Saw The Final Version Of ‘Green Lantern’

Many actors’ careers have highs and lows, peaks and valleys, ebbs and flows. It’s never one’s intention to not create the best film possible, but sometimes everything doesn’t come together exactly how they planned. There’s never just one excuse, it could be a multitude of things, but at the end of the day, some films just don’t turn out exactly how everyone expected them to. That’s not even to say a film is “bad,” because art is subjective, but when there’s a strong consensus that says something is bad, its reputation sticks.

Ryan Reynolds has had a very successful career. He’s been active in the business as an actor since the early 90s and has played roles on both the big and small screen. He’s tried his hand at every genre you could think of, but nothing has been quite like playing Wade Wilson. He has embodied the role both on and off screen, and through hard work and dedication to the character, has helped make Deadpool one of the most beloved anti-heroes in the history of film. This isn’t his first foray into the world of superheroes, or playing Deadpool for that matter, starring in both Marvel and DC roles.

His DC role came as Hal Jordan in Green Lantern. It was a promising film, and there was a lot of excitement when it was making its way towards theaters. Fans of the franchise were finally hoping it would be everything they wanted to see from the Green Lantern on screen. Unfortunately for Reynolds and Green Lantern fans, it didn’t receive the reaction everyone hoped. What was wrong with the film is up to each viewer, but Reynolds even joked about some of its issues in Deadpool, the CGI costume to be specific. Now, with Reynolds on a press tour in promotion of Deadpool 2, he’s getting asked about the film, which he didn’t actually see…

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly Reynolds discussed Green Lantern and Deadpool’s joke…

“I’ve got to be really careful how I answer this. Look, I’ve never seen the full final version of Green Lantern. I saw a very late stage rough cut of the film. Now, that isn’t to say that I didn’t want to see it because I didn’t like it. I have movies that have been received pretty well that I haven’t seen, and then I have movies that I have seen 100 times that people don’t like but I just like. The Green Lantern [joke in Deadpool] to me is just sort of, I don’t know, kind of fun. It’s me just taking the piss out of me, but it’s more Wade [Wilson] though.”

Reynolds is never one to run away from a topic; he’d rather poke some fun at it and it doesn’t matter if it’s a positive or negative topic. Deadpool was a smash hit, but nobody knows how great Deadpool 2 will be. We’ll all be able to find out when it hits theaters on May 18th in theaters everywhere!
