The Batman film roster may be at a standstill, but the TV world is steadily moving forward. Well, Batman isn’t exactly making a new debut on TV, but Batwoman sure is.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Australian actress and model Ruby Rose would be portraying Batgirl, also known as Kate Kane, on the CW as part of the “Arrowverse.” That is, she will be part of the shared universe involving the other CW shows Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and sometimes Legends of Tomorrow, and Black Lightning.

The Bat is out of the bag and I am beyond thrilled and honored. I’m also an emotional wreck.. because this is a childhood dream. This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on tv and felt alone and different. Thank you everyone. Thank you god.
This will come as the first CW show involving Gotham city, but more importantly, it will be the first show to revolve around a superhero that is part of the LGBTQ+ community, as it was revealed that Kate Kane is a lesbian. Needless to say, many fans around the world have been eagerly awaiting news from this upcoming venture that the CW is currently working to add into their already full roster of diverse superheroes and villains.
The new show and character will be introduced this December for the annual Arrowverse crossover episodes, called “Elseworlds Crossover,” so it’s about time we got a glimpse of what her addition will look like, especially since there is a wealth of material to pull from via the comicbooks.
TVLine has released the news of the first promo shot of Rose in her full Batwoman costume… Cape, mask, and all. The crossover with the other Arrowverse shows will be a three-night event, so it will be great to see this entire costume in action, come December. It looks to be a pretty loyal adaptation from the source material, much to fan excitement. Check out the shot below:
Depending on how well Rose’s character is received in the crossover event, a standalone series could also be in the pipeline, possibly premiering next spring. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but a few other cast members from the Arrowerse shows have spoken about seeing Rose in her costume, and further interactions and filming time with the rest of the heroes are never a bad thing!
