Robert Downey Jr. Talks About Scenes With ‘Avengers’ With Co-Star Benedict Cumberbatch

Avengers: Infinity War is on its way, and the massive cast of characters will be duking it out in this long-awaited Marvel Cinematic Universe crossover. There will be several team-ups throughout the movie, including Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Iron Man/Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) joining forces and combining both their intellect and superheroic advantages. Strange and Stark will undoubtedly have some witty banter to throw at one another during the film.

Downey Jr. sat down in an interview with Entertainment Weekly talking about Avengers: Infinity War and all his fellow cast members. The Russo Brothers have partnered up Iron Man and Doctor Strange and they will be joined by Wong (Benedict Wong), and eventually Spider-Man (Tom Holland) and the Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). RDJ also explained his admiration for his British co-star Cumberbatch as well as the character he portrays in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“I love how Cumberbatch just comes in, and kind of draws flaming circles anywhere and can basically step into your movie. That’s fun,” said Downey Jr. “And we wanted to keep a little bit of the Science Bros thing alive, even though Ruffalo has been on such an amazing Banner/Hulk journey himself. I really, really, really enjoyed getting to know and work with and play around with Benedict as Strange. Benedict Wong also, by the way, is fantastic,” he continued.

The Super Bowl commercial featured the entire roster of Avengers as well as the Guardians of the Galaxy readying themselves for a fierce battle with Thanos and his Black Order. The universe is at stake as these superpowered giants join forces in an effort to stop the Mad Titan’s quest for the Infinity Stones. Both the Sorcerer Supreme and Iron Man appear in the TV spot. The former begins to cast his spells while Stark rushes from behind and flies through the magic.

One can only imagine as to how the two of them might use their intellect to amplify their powers in the fight against evil. In what creative ways will the combat be implemented? Fans won’t have to wait too much longer for an answer to that question, since Avengers: Infinity War will be coming to theaters a week earlier than it was intended. Thanks to a tweet from Robert Downey Jr., the release of Avengers: Infinity War has moved to April 27th, 2018.
