Avengers: Infinity War will be ushering the Marvel Cinematic Universe into a brand new era, with the lives of everyone’s favorite Marvel superheroes hanging in the balance. The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy will be facing off against Thanos and his Black Order, attempting to retrieve all Infinity Stones before evil gets its hands on them.
The battle will span intergalactically, as Thor teams up with the Guardians, Iron Man and Doctor Strange exchange witty banter and Captain America, Black Widow, and Black Panther settle things in Wakanda.
Tony Stark will be donning his brand new Bleeding Edge armor, which will be complete with deep-space booster rockets, a new arc reactor, and a set of metal wings for easier maneuvering. However, according to the promotional material for the movie, Stark’s new armor may not be the best against Thanos in a one-on-one opposition.
President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, recently said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that fans will be getting what they wished for, and a Marvel hero will not be making it to the end of Infinity War.
“I mean, I could always list off the characters that we’ve killed in our movies that haven’t come back,” said Feige. “But the big ones, which I know they’re looking at …? [Pause.] I would just say, yes. People need to be careful what they wish for,” he hinted.
Actor Robert Downey Jr. echoed the permanence of the battle and its fatal consequences, speaking with EW as well and saying, “Believe me, I’m tired of every movie, you know, ‘It’s the end! It’s Armageddon! It’s the Be-all, End-all, forever!’ And then it’s … not. This one actually is. [Laughs] They’re not kidding. This is a heads-will-roll scenario.”
Ten years after establishing the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios will be giving Thanos an intense amount of power after building his feature-length introduction up for a few films. There are speculations over which heroes will bite the dust in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War, with some fingers pointing towards Chris Hemsworth. Hemsworth’s contract as Thor ends with Avengers 4, which may mean that his number might be up.
These changes will remove the old guard and allow a new generation of superheroes to take center stage as Marvel Studios carries on into its fourth phase. Avengers: Infinity War will be premiering on April 27th, 2018.
