When you want to talk about classically awesome comicbook issues in future years, you won’t be able to leave out Thor #5. The storytelling in this run is absolutely crazy and you’ll begin to see why in a second if you’re just now catching up.
Eons after the Earth has been destroyed and burnt to ash thanks to Loki, Thor was one of the only survivors on Midgard, and he lives with the haunting memory of how bad things went every passing moment into the dying universe.
Oh yeah, that’s a thing too. The universe is indeed on its way out, along with the rest of life residing in it. This news comes just after Thor is able to breathe new life into Earth and, with it, new mankind! All-Father Thor’s three granddaughters are on the planet now looking after things while he took a scouting mission to see the far reaches of the dying universe for himself.
It’s there that Thor comes face to face with a not so friendly ghost from the past, and he’s brought the Phoenix force with him.
Wolverine is now a god in his own right with the Phoenix dwelling inside of his immortal vessel. The two warriors size each other up and converse heatedly about the current state of affairs, which almost couldn’t be any worse . . . almost.
Then a familiar sound signals that the time for talking is coming to an end.
