While video game movies are noted to be primarily a miss rather than a hit once they reach the box office, that doesn’t stop Hollywood from adapting beloved franchises in hopes to strike cinematic gold. One such attempt at success resulted in 1993’s critically panned, cult classic Super Mario Bros. movie featuring the acting talents of Bob Hoskins as Mario and John Leguizamo as Luigi.
According to a past report from the Wall Street Journal, Nintendo has been waiting for a chance to throw their hat (preferably Cappy) into the ring once more in an attempt to successfully bring Mario to the big screen.
No doubt the video game company is surfing a wave of success at two legendary releases in both Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey which both released last year. Illumination Studios has partnered up with Nintendo to begin work on an animated adaptation of video game icon Super Mario.
