Avengers: Infinity War isn’t just the biggest event in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a culmination of 10 years and 18 films coming together for the biggest threat Earth has ever seen, it’s also the biggest event in IMAX history. Infinity War is the first Hollywood film to be shot entirely with IMAX cameras, and with all the action that’s going to be happening in this epic, there really isn’t any other way to watch it.

During an interview with SlashFilm, co-director Joe Russo spoke about using the IMAX technology…
“They’re beautiful cameras, the chip is unbelievable, it’s stunning. We have a lot of characters who … are tall, unnaturally tall. So it really helps with the frame, because that IMAX aspect ratio works for those types of characters, and the landscapes are stunning. There are some really exotic landscapes in the film, and to be able to put those on an IMAX screen, it’s an incredible tool to have as a filmmaker to be able to exploit that scale of aspect ratio.”
There were no cutting corners in the making of this film, and the fact that this film is the first blockbuster to be filmed with this technology makes it an absolute must to see in IMAX. Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk and Michael Bay’s Transformers: The Last Knight also used quite a bit of the technology. If you watched either of those in IMAX you understand what this technology brings, and Infinity War took it one step further than both of those movies did.
