For those outside of the loop, Marvel has initiated a “Fresh Start” for their comics in 2018. Their plan is to reveal all of the secrets and answer all of the questions fans have about the Marvel Universe. As last year’s Marvel Legacy introduced the first Avengers from the year 1,000,000 BC, the “Fresh Start” will answer the questions about the origins of other characters like the first Ghost Rider, the original Sorcerer Supreme, and the first Black Panther.
When Marvel Legacy #1 was released, the best-selling one-off of 2017, Tom Brevoort explained that the reveals weren’t a lesson on the history but rather, “It’s the starting gun to a bevy of mysteries, secrets, and revelations that will reverberate across the Marvel Universe in the weeks and months to come!” With the relaunched Avengers, Jason Aaron will be telling a single narrative across the past and present of the Marvel Universe, rewriting the ancient history of the Marvel Universe.
Brevoort spoke with CBR about the series that will feature special one-off issues, each revealing the origin story of a member of the Avengers of 1,000,000BC. “The first one will be Avengers #7,” Brevoort said, “the origin of the Mastodon-riding Ghost Rider of 1,000,000 BC, with artwork by Sara Pichelli.”
While Ghost Rider will be first, riding his Hellfire-blazing Woolly Mammoth, fans will be excited to know that the series will explore more ancient characters from Marvel’s history. Bashenga, the first Black Panther will be explored, as will Agamotto, first to bear the title of Sorcerer Supreme, and the first Iron Fist. Odin the All-Father will also be making his way to the page with an early host of The Phoenix by his side. This “Fresh Start” is looking to be an exciting one!
