You know what they say, “You can’t please all of the people all of the time,” but it seems like, at least when it comes to major film franchises, the vocal minority always seems to get their negative views on things heard. When it comes to Star Wars: The Last Jedi, fans and viewers had some major issues with Rian Johnson’s film.
There were complaints about everything from as small as Luke drinking the alien’s milk on Ahch-To to how Luke passes away at the end of the film… SPOILER ALERT! One complaint was about Kylo Ren’s decision to turn on Snoke and kill him, which came as a shock to most who were watching. This isn’t the first time we’ve witnessed something like this during the Star Wars saga, and one person who was completely perplexed by the negative reactions was Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill.
During a conversation with GamesRadar, Hamill talked about the backlash The Last Jedi received…
“I was surprised everyone was so upset that they got rid of Snoke. From Rian’s point of view, it was a big favorite for [Episode] 9 because he’s not important. It clears the deck to have the conflict between Kylo and Rey without him getting in the way and having to explain if he’s a clone or if he’s related to Palpatine… all that stuff.”
While we can understand that fans have a certain point-of-view of how things are supposed to play out, at the end of the day, it’s up to the creators to make the final decisions. Whether they’re right or wrong, in anyone’s opinion, it’s ultimately up to them.
