Steven Spielberg is one of the most decorated filmmakers to ever do it. In terms of commercial success, he’s unmatched. As we reported yesterday, Spielberg became the first director to top $10 billion at the box office in global sales. In honor of that feat, we shared his Top 10 grossing films HERE.
While some would be satisfied with the career he’s had, not Steven. His passion for film is still as strong as it’s ever been. With four different movies currently in development, this 71-year-old has a full plate in front of him. If history tells us anything, we’re in for quite the treats. Below, we give a quick breakdown of each film he has in production…
Indiana Jones 5
Dr. Henry Walton Jones Jr. is back for the first time since 2008. Production for the fifth film in the Indiana Jones saga begins production sometime in the spring with Harrison Ford in the lead once again, but Shia LeBeouf will not be returning after his role in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Neither will George Lucas as the writing will be handled by screenwriter and frequent Spielberg collaborator David Koepp.
Indiana Jones 5 hits theaters on July 10th, 2020.
West Side Story
Spielberg has been speaking about remaking this 1961 classic since 2014, and he’s finally making it happen. As Spielberg’s first musical of his career, he has stated he’s going to start production after Indiana Jones 5. On board with the project is Oscar-nominated screenwriter Tony Kushner, who has worked on both Munich and Lincoln.
