Jeremy Renner Discusses Russo Brothers Being Threatened Over Hawkeye’s ‘Infinity War’ Absence

In the lead up to Avengers: Infinity War earlier this year, Hawkeye’s absence in the promotional material was causing quite the buzz. Now that we know the reason (he wasn’t actually in the movie), it makes complete sense, but at the time many fans thought Marvel Studios was trying to pull a fast one on all of us. Fans became so engulfed in the Hawkeye conspiracy that they even made him his own promotional material, with Twitter and Instagram user @Bosslogic leading the way.

While many fans took his absence for what it was and went along with the jokes, some Hawkeye fanatics went entirely too far, especially since it was even explained why Clint Barton and Scott Lang were left out of Infinity War. While speaking to USA Today during the press tour for his latest film, Tag, Jeremy Renner spoke about Hawkeye’s fans’ devotion to the character and also how they went over the line saying, “It’s a nice feeling, I suppose. I think the Russo brothers got way too many death threats. I’m like, ‘Wow, dude, that’s intense. I’m sorry.'”

While we understand that fans can get a little upset when their favorite characters get the short end of the stick, we can never understand threatening someone’s life over it. That’s plain sick. Considering how good Infinity War turned out, we think it’s safe to put our trust in the Russo Brothers and know they have a plan. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige even said that Hawkeye skipping Infinity War is “one of the best things that ever happened” to the character, so they definitely know what they’re doing with the expert archer. Renner seems confident too, and when he was asked about Avengers 4 he said, “Everybody’s got to bite their tongue. But if you like Infinity War, there’s some stuff to come. What I do know is it’s going to be awesome.”

Tag opens this Friday, June 15th, and Avengers 4 will hit theaters on May 3rd, 2019.
