Accomplished actress Jodie Foster had recently given her opinion on current movie trends and the booming popularity of the superhero/comicbook genre. While her views may have been negative, director James Gunn was a good sport and responded to them tactfully.
“Going to the movies has become like a theme park,” Foster said. “Studios making bad content in order to appeal to the masses and shareholders is like fracking — you get the best return right now but you wreck the earth. It’s ruining the viewing habits of the American population and then ultimately the rest of the world. I don’t want to make $200 million movies about superheroes,” she continued.
Some fans would argue that Foster’s comparison of current comicbook movie trends to the act of fracking was a tad hyperbolic. However, there have been others, including Gunn, that have diplomatically considered her right to comment on the film industry. It’s clear that the director respects her thoughts on this matter, taking her personal story and cinematic achievements into account with his response.
