While much of the attention Tom Hardy is currently receiving these days is based around his role in the upcoming film Venom, it’s not the only project that he has in the pipeline. In fact, he plays Al Capone in the film Fonzo, which is currently in post-production. Although it doesn’t currently have a release date, one can assume that the Josh Trank (Fantastic Four, Chronicle) helmed film will be receiving one soon.
For those who are unaware of Fonzo, the film is based on Al Capone’s later years, after his 10-year stint in prison for tax evasion. Its plot focuses on Capone’s syphilitic dementia, and as his health deteriorates “his past becomes present as harrowing memories of his violent and brutal origins melt into his waking life,” according to the synopsis.
The closer we get to this film coming out or getting a release date, for that matter, the more information and content we’ll get surrounding it. Director Josh Trank just released the “First Official” photo of Hardy as Al Capone, and as expected, it shows the actor bearing noticeable facial scars and looking like a gangster at the end of his rope. Al Capone famously passed away at the young age of 48-years-old, meaning the film will see the demise of one of the most infamous characters in American history. Check out the photo below.

This isn’t the first photo we’ve actually seen of Hardy as Capone. Back in March, Hardy shared an exclusive snap of him on set as Capone on his Instagram page with the simple caption, “Chasing Fonzo.”
Alongside Hardy, Fonzo will star Linda Cardellini (Brokeback Mountain, Avengers: Age of Ultron), Matt Dillon (There’s Something About Mary, The Outsiders), Noel Fisher (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Shameless), and more. We’ll bring you more details as they’re released.
