Throughout the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there has been criticism from some people about the seriousness, or lack thereof, of the impending danger headed the protagonist’s way in a lot of the films. The way that Marvel Studios has chosen to mix in light-hearted humor throughout the franchises, to some, takes away from threats the characters face. With Avengers: Infinity War on the way, the question remains, is this the film that brings the stakes they face to an all-time high?
If this film were a direct adaptation of the comicbooks, we would know how serious it’s going to get for some of our superheroes, but like many of the adaptations in the past, nothing is 100% the same. There has been rampant speculation as to which, if any, of the characters will lose their life to Thanos and his Black Order. Does the length of their contracts give us a hint? Are there going to be any big surprises on the way? Again, it’s all speculation, but the film’s directors have recently spoken out about the fans needing to prepare themselves for anything, including heartbreak.
During an interview with Metro UK, Joe Russo had this to say…
“This is it. Thanos is an unstoppable villain he’s virtually invincible, he’s highly intelligent – genius level intelligent – he’s like the Genghis Khan of the universe, and to stop him it’s going to cost them a lot. They’re going to have to see if they’re willing to pay that price, and that’s what these movies are really about.”
Well, during the rise of the Mongol Empire, many historians estimate that Genghis Khan and his army’s killed around 40 million people. If Thanos is on that kind of reign, we have quite a bit to worry about.
