Luke Skywalker’s portrayal in Star Wars has been one of the most talked about developments since his return with The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. In The Force Awakens, we don’t actually get to see Luke until the end of the film when Rey finally finds him standing on top of Ahch-To, the birthplace of the Jedi Order. In that moment, when Rey reaches out to hand Luke his Light Saber, it immediately gave hope back to those rooting for the Jedi to return and restore balance to the force.
When The Last Jedi returns to that scene, it doesn’t play out at all how we anticipated. Luke tosses the Light Saber off the mountain, the audience gets a good laugh, and we learn where he is mentally. While the rest of the film may not have gone exactly how some fans wanted, this was a great way to start off his master/padawan relationship with Rey.
Now that both films are out on DVD, one fan took this as an opportunity to give us an ending that we didn’t ask for, but needed. Jacob Martin, @jacobdontcare on Twitter, tweeted his alternate ending to The Force Awakens directly to Mark Hamill saying, “@HamillHimself I made an alternate ending for The Force Awakens. Feeling like JJ really missed an opportunity here…” Check it out below.
The mash-up has over 180k views, and for good reason. As for Mark Hamill, he’s been pretty vocal recently about everything Star Wars related. He discussed his thoughts the plethora of films coming out lately, the standalone movies, and more.
