Marvel Studios will be celebrating its tenth year of moviemaking with the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War. This latest film will be the culmination of a decade of building an entire cinematic universe and developing characters that fans have come to know and love. However, a new threat will be entering the fray in the form of the deadly Thanos, venturing to every corner of the galaxy to find the remaining Infinity Stones. So far, there are still many mysteries to the MCU version of the Mad Titan, but there are some things that are known about the character, portrayed by Josh Brolin.
In the post-credits scene of the first Avengers movie, director Joss Whedon revealed Thanos to be the puppeteer of the events that unfolded, remaining in his Sanctuary. At the end of Guardians of the Galaxy, the Mad Titan stays behind once again, sending Ronan the Accuser to fetch the Power Stone.
However, he doesn’t remain confined to his Sanctuary as seen during the post-credits scene of Avengers: Age of Ultron. In order to navigate the universe with ease, he boards his massive ship called Sanctuary II, shown during the mid-credits sequence of Thor: Ragnarok, and endangering the lives of refugee Asgardians who just had their home destroyed by Surtur.
While he hasn’t committed any heinous atrocities on-screen, he most certainly has a knack for stealing children and murdering their family members. Of course, the backstories of both Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Nebula (Karen Gillan) place them as “Daughters of Thanos,” stolen from their homeworlds and trained by the Mad Titan to be killing machines.
