It’s pretty well known that Doctor Stephen Strange has a lot on his plate as the resident Sorcerer Supreme of Earth. Typical duties include defeating interdimensional monsters, thwarting Dormammu, helping other heroes with their worldly problems, and returning from the Astral Plane with just enough time to make yoga and meditation class before lunch. All in a days work!
His skills with all things magic and a knack for looking super stylish with that Cloak of Levitation are only some of the reasons why he’s become more of a household name in the recent years. Marvel adding him to their already-stacked cinematic roster in 2016 plus fresh creative minds in the world of comicbooks are continuing to keep the sorcerer alive and well, while pushing the character to remain inventive and relevant in today’s times.
With that, Marvel has proudly announced a new take on Doctor Strange as they send him on a quest to the final frontier. Space will present many new challenges and obstacles, which is all intended per the studios’ relaunch initiative.
According to Matthew Erao of ScreenRant, Marvel offered up a brief summary of Doctor Strange #1 stating:
“The Eye of Agamotto is closed! Doctor Stephen Strange has lost his connection to the Earth’s arcane power, and he can’t wait to recover while nightmares press against the seams of our reality. Tony Stark offers a 21st-century solution: when astral travel fails, try astronautical travel. Enter Doctor Strange: Space-Explorer Supreme!
Different spells, allies, and enemies—new and old—await Strange beyond the stars, along with corners and secrets of the Marvel Universe, seen here for the first time! Space is endless, but time is short. After years of threats, Stephen’s bill for magic-use is coming due—who will come to collect?!”
