The Dora Milaje are the band of women warriors who were, for many generations, tasked with protecting the Wakandan King and throne. Over time things have changed, but they still remain faithful to looking out for King T’Challa, the current Black Panther and ruler of the Kingdom of Wakanda.
In a new comicbook run from writer Nnedi Okorafor and artist Oleg Okunev called Avengers: Wakanda Forever, we are catching up with Dora Milaje on an adventure that highlights some of their history and teamwork taking them to New York City.
Black Panther and the team are able to track down Nakia, an ex-lover and ex-Dora Milaje member with the help of some eyes and ears on the ground. She will play an integral role in stopping an intelligent Dora Milaje weapon that she technically unleashed. Rogue and Nightcrawler are more than happy to help take down the weapon known as Mimic-27, currently on the loose, imitating heroes and using their abilities to wreak havoc all over the city.
The motivation behind Nakia’s actions are selfish, but one that can be understood. She is dying, and her last wish is to see T’Challa before the end.
