With the Marvel Cinematic Universe being over 10 years old, changes are bound to be made. This summer, all of the characters and storylines we’ve seen so far will all culminate into an epic two part series in Avengers: Infinity War.
We still have a few months to go before the first film comes out, but the eternal question among fans is “who will make it through and who will not?” With so many characters that we have grown attached to and have seen grow in their worlds over the years, it will be hard to let anyone go.
The outcome of the films are, of course, largely unknown, but some of the actors have announced that their contracts with Marvel are up after this film. While this doesn’t necessarily mean that contracts cannot be renewed, it is still a big decision, with all of the new characters that have been introduced.
One such actor is Chris Hemsworth, who plays our hero Thor Odinson. The actor confirmed last year that his contract was up after the second Infinity War film.
The actor has been playing Thor in over 4 films, since 2011, with the 2017 hit Thor: Ragnarok as the latest installment, also starring Tom Hiddleston who reprised his role as Loki, again. The film had the highest reviews of any other Thor standalone film, as well as universal critical and fan acclaim, and grossed over $850 million, worldwide. Although this is certainly a high note for the world of Asgard, Hemsworth has confirmed that he may be soon hanging up his proverbial hammer, in the not-too-distant future.
“My contract’s coming to an end, we’ve just finished the last two Avengers. Who knows what the future holds,” he said to Channel 7’s Sunrise in Australia.
“It’s sort of a scary thought. This really seemed like this never-ending thing. And now it’s potentially finishing,” he continued.
Although the future may seem bleak for Thor fans, there may be a way for Hemsworth to continue playing the role in the future, even after the smoke clears from Infinity War.
