‘Captain Marvel’ Gives Nod To Classic 90s Action Films

Breaking records and smashing boundaries, it appears the Marvel Universe is an unstoppable force as they make their way through the rest of the third phase to make room for the fourth. Intrigue for what’s to come is certainly at an all-time high, and it’s only just begun. The next 10 years will solidify the cinematic universe we have grown to love in a way that we’ve never seen before. With Infinity War on the horizon, many are finding they simply want to know more about where it all began.

A deep dive into the beginnings of a character provides understanding and has opened up many possibilities in this realm of entertainment, so what’s next?! How about a female lead, in space, pre-Nick-Fury-eye-patch, with a homage to classic 90s action! That’s right, it’s time to take it back in time a bit with Captain Marvel hitting theatres early March 2019. The big boss, Kevin Feige, is unveiling plans for iconic action sequences, similar to Terminator 2, which would be really exciting to see.

Brie Larson, known for her roles in Room, and Kong: Skull Island, brings the Captain Marvel transformation to life playing charismatic pilot, Carol Danvers. Ms. Danvers was the first superhero to ever to make it on Nick Fury’s radar. This will definitely be a defining moment in establishing an epic timeline for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Feige described how the 90s backdrop of Captain Marvel will open new doors in this compelling storytelling arena.

“We wanted to explore a period before Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury had any idea about any of the other heroes and crazy stuff going on in the world,” Feige said. “You know, we first met Nick when he told Tony, ‘You’re part of a big universe. You just don’t know yet.’ Well, we want to go back to a time when he didn’t know it yet, and really showcase and announce that Carol Danvers was that first hero that Nick came across. That meant she could be the singular hero, but place it within timing of the MCU.”
