Rise of the Black Panther is a six-issue comicbook series featuring T’Challa revealing his protected African nation of Wakanda to the rest of the world, after decades of seclusion. The “fresh start” initiative from Marvel will have writer Ta-Nehisi Coates send the King of Wakanda into outer space. Evan Narcisse’s continued backstory of T’Challa as his nation’s Vibranium-clad protector included a confrontation with the King of Atlantis, Namor the Sub-Mariner.
They misunderstand each other briefly during the battle since Wakandan citizens have gone missing and Black Panther retaliates at his sea-dwelling counterpart. The pair clash over Namor’s stubbornness and hatred of surface dwellers, while T’Challa defends Wakanda with his fierce Vibranium claws, slashing his opponent’s chest.
These two characters have a long history in the Marvel Universe together and are known to clash due to their contrasting personalities. After some time, Namor cools down. He and T’Challa join up to find the missing Wakandans and fight an Atlantean who wants to usurp the throne of Atlantis from its king.
In Rise of the Black Panther #3, after T’Challa reveals the location of Wakanda to the world, Winter Soldier pays him a visit under the influence of his Soviet/Hydra brainwashing.
