The Easter eggs within the Marvel Cinematic Universe can often be hard to detect until some keen-eyed fans have taken a closer look. One found towards the end of Iron Man 2 predicts the involvement of Black Panther eight years prior as Tony Stark meets with Nick Fury and is initially turned down as a member of the Avengers Initiative.
While this is going on, the S.H.I.E.L.D. activity map behind Stark has pinpointed several locations where Marvel superheroes have been experiencing their own struggles. A slight nod to Namor came with a marker placed dead-center in the Atlantic Ocean, but it’s unlikely that Marvel Studios will make a Sub-Mariner movie anytime soon since they need to reacquire the rights to the character. However, That doesn’t mean that they haven’t been planning the story ahead of time, not unlike Black Panther.
Another noteworthy marker is placed in East Africa, referencing the fictional kingdom of Wakanda years before its big screen adaptation. King T’Challa was most likely being scoped out by S.H.I.E.L.D. since his prelude comicbooks (released during the first Iron Man movie) depicted him as a globe-trotting stealth agent, rescuing Wakandan hostages in Paraguay and being seen doing so. These revelations of T’Challa’s superheroic antics have given S.H.I.E.L.D. a reason to keep a close eye on his East African homeland.
