Awesome April Holidays To Celebrate Throughout The Next Month

We’re bringing back the monthly format for holidays, because we figure it’s probably easier to have all your (curated) reasons to celebrate the next 30 days in one handy post. With that said, please join us as we trek through adventurous April!

April 1: International Fun at Work Day

Is this an April Fools Day joke? Or is it just ironic that International Fun at Work Day not only lands on a weekend, but another noted holiday as well (Easter). Hopefully, most of you reading this can celebrate International Fun Anywhere Day instead, but if you do find yourself working the grind, have a little fun (or try to) while you’re at it!

April 5: Read a Road Map Day

You know, like humans had to do as recently as 20 years ago – we’re talking before smartphones, before GPS, and certainly before printable Mapquest directions. Sometimes even multiple maps were necessary if one was driving through different states or cities! So here’s your task for today’s #throwbackthursday: turn off the location services on your smart device, dust off (or purchase, download, or print) a map, and hit the road! See how well you can do living in the dark ages, aka anything up to the late 1990s-early 2000s.

April 8: Draw a Bird Day

This might not be as hard as you think, especially if you believe yourself to be artistically challenged. Why? For starters, scientists now estimate that there are about 18,000 different species of birds in the world, which means you have a huge pool to pick from and you can choose a type of feathered friend that is easiest for you to sketch (or make a stick figure out of – your call). You can also always turn to the countless pop culture and comicbook versions of these animals for inspiration (or tracing), like Big Bird, Angry Birds, Tweety, Road Runner, Mr. Owl from the Tootsie Pop commercials, Falcon, Bird People (off-shoot of the Inhumans), and Songbird, just to name a few.

April 12: Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day

Ah, we’ve come so far from the basic two ingredient grilled cheese – that would be cheese and bread – that now there are even food trucks solely devoted to this wonderful creation! The underlying simplicity of this sandwich easily allows for innovation, as in added ingredients, and really, anything goes! How about throwing in some of the following and see what you like best: French onion soup mix, brie and apple, cherry basil, sauerkraut and Dijon, kale pesto, jalapeno poppers, potato chips, and peanut butter and bacon. (Not all together, obviously. Unless you’re super adventurous that way!)
