With the next film in the MCU, Ant-Man and the Wasp, audiences are looking for a lot of answers to questions that they have been asking since Infinity War. With the events of the latest Marvel Studios film taking place before Infinity War, what we may get is some inkling as to where Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne will be during the battle against Thanos, and perhaps some kind of plan to help the universe in this time of need.
While some fans may be wondering what Ant-Man and the Wasp will do for the fate of the universe, some fans are honestly just wondering where Lang and van Dyne’s relationship has left off since the first film. Sure, this may not be world-changing information, but inquiring minds still want to know: are they or aren’t they?!
The last film ended with Lang and van Dyne sharing a kiss, but the relationship was not mentioned in Lang’s second MCU appearance in Civil War, so this film will be the first time we see the pair explore their relationship…or not.
During the Hollywood premiere, Paul Rudd spoke candidly about their relationship and revealed that it’s not exactly paradise for Ant-Man and the Wasp when the second film starts saying, “We’re starting a little estranged…We’re not really on the best of terms.”
Well, that’s not quite the romantic answer we were hoping for, but at least that could mean that the movie will be full of action! And just because the film starts out with them on bad terms, doesn’t mean it ends that way. Traveling into the Quantum Realm and beating up bad guys together really creates a bond, one would imagine…
The film releases in a few weeks, but Paul Rudd elaborated on the current state of their relationship at the start of the new movie and where it is in regards to the ending of the last movie. After all, a lot has happened since Ant-Man came out three years ago.
Rudd continued to say:
“They finished the first film in a kiss, in an embrace and then they carried on to have a relationship off-screen — sorry fans! — and then they became estranged. And so we pick up the second film where they are at odds, where they aren’t speaking, and they haven’t spoken in years. And Hope is once again not pleased with Scott. Which is how I think we like her right? It’s fun to watch her dig on him.”
It is not surprising that van Dyne is displeased with Lang’s behavior after the first film, when the first thing he did was go rogue with Captain America in Civil War, got himself locked up in a high-security prison, and ended up on house arrest.
Regardless of the romance factor in Ant-Man and the Wasp, both characters have plenty of other things to worry about with the potential rescue of Janet van Dyne, the supervillain Ghost, the Quantum Realm, and perhaps even the impending doom that Thanos will bring to the universe in the not-too-distant future. Scott Lang, Hope van Dyne, and the rest of the gang have their work cut out for them, and we don’t just mean within their relationships!
