15 Marvel Cinematic Universe Influenced Changes To Marvel Comics

The Chitauri

This race of shape-shifting lizard aliens once belonged to the Ultimate Universe in the comicbooks. Their involvement in the Earth-199999 storyline gave them more prominence in the comicbook medium as well as in the movies. In fact, the Chitauri’s design was given a revamp due to their villainous roles in Avengers.

Tony Stark’s Personality Re-Written

Since Iron Man’s debut, Tony Stark has always carried himself in a serious manner. However, Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal as an affably sardonic playboy and brilliant scientific mind has rubbed off on his comicbook counterpart.

S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Importance

Ever since S.H.I.E.L.D.’s involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans have been intrigued by the organization’s mysterious nature. They had managed to play a significant part in both the Civil War and Secret Invasion comicbook series, but it wasn’t until 2012’s blockbuster film The Avengers that the inner workings of S.H.I.E.L.D. became ripe for discovery.

Fantastic Four Shelved

Unfortunately, the superhero team that helped kickstart the Marvel comicbook legacy has laid dormant in print due to the Disney/Fox license split. Following the events of Secret Wars, Marvel’s First Family appears to have no future publication in sight. However, Disney’s recent acquisition of Fox could turn the tide for the team.

Mark Millar’s reimagined Avengers for Marvel’s Ultimate Universe also resulted in a redesign of Nick Fury, making him look similar to actor Samuel L. Jackson. The design has led to Marvel Studios imitating Millar’s “casting,” placing Jackson in the same role within the Earth-199999 universe as well. The Marvel Prime Universe even killed off the original Fury, replacing him with his son, who everyone calls Nick Fury anyway. The replacement happened just as the Ultimate Universe had begun to be phased out.
