Undoubtedly, one of the biggest baddies of them all in the Marvel Universe is the Mad Titan known as Thanos. This villain has been known to do some pretty horrible things in his time, not the least of which destroyed most of the sentient life in the entire universe to appease the woman of his dreams, also known as Lady Death. Yeah . . . creepy. Thanos has proven himself time and time again to be a monstrous threat with and without the Infinity Gauntlet which is why he’s easily one of the most terrifying villains in Marvel comicbooks.
With Avengers: Infinity War approaching and Thanos and his Black Order making their first big appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s only right that we look at some of the strangest alternate versions of the Mad Titan from all corners of the multiverse.
In this version of things, death has been defeated by beings known as the Many-Angled Ones, and they basically enslave and infect all life with their nastiness which leaves everyone including Thanos looking corrupted and twisted with extra eyes and mouths where they don’t belong. In the Cancerverse, Thanos becomes just another infected soldier in their ever-growing army.
Never thought you’d see the day huh? Yeah, in Thanos #10, the big guy finds himself in an alternate reality controlled by the Three Sisters of Eternity. In this reality, he’s celebrated as a hero and leader of the Avengers. But when Thanos learns the whole truth, he throws it all away by crushing Captain America’s head in defiance. Yikes!
Earth 2149 parallels very closely with Earth 616 which houses most of the main continuity going on in Marvel. The major difference here is everyone including the Mad Titan gets zombified when a virus outbreak takes all organic life for a ride on the undead side. That’s right, even the mighty Thanos falls victim to the zombie plague and is destined to wander the universe mindlessly in search of flesh to devour.
